January closures of M6 flagged up
Published: 4th December 2025|Location: Regionwide
MOTORISTS heading south in the new year are being alerted to road closures on the M6 in January.
The M6, near Penrith, will be closed for the first two weekends of January - each time from 8 pm on the Friday to 5 am on the Monday.
It’s to allow Network Rail to demolish and replace Clifton Bridge which carries the West Coast Mainline over the motorway between junction 39 at Shap and junction 40 at Penrith.
The busy road will be closed between junction 39 and junction 40 in both directions with three main diversions in place.
More information about the project can be found at National Highways and Network Rail websites.
