SCOTTISH Conservatives’ candidate for Dumfriesshire Craig Hoy MSP has slammed local SNP MSPs for voting against the Right to Recovery Bill in the Scottish Parliament. The landmark bill which was brought forward by MSP Douglas Ross, would have guaranteed a right in law to treatment, including rehabilitation, for all those who required it due to drug or alcohol addiction. However, SNP and Green MSPs voted against the Bill meaning it fell at Stage One. Craig Hoy MSP says they should 'hang their heads in shame' for their decision, and that the Right to Recovery Bill was a potential game-changer in the fight against drug and alcohol deaths in Dumfriesshire. He added: “This will be looked back on as a dark day for the Scottish Parliament. MSPs were presented with a golden opportunity to progress a bill that was a potential game-changer in the fight against drug deaths in Scotland. “Instead, SNP and Green MSPs decided to prioritise playing politics over saving lives. They should hang their heads in shame for their shameful decision. “Too many lives have been lost due to addiction in Dumfriesshire yet still SNP and Green MSPs will not accept their approach has failed some of our most vulnerable people."
