CARE home residents in Lockerbie developed their art appreciation skills at a special event last week.

Dryfemount Care Home took part in the International Arts in Care Homes Day and welcomed in a range of local artists to showcase their talents and run art sessions.

There was also a display of residents’ own arts and craft work, alongside wildlife photos by Gary Black, who gave a talk.

Tattooist Ben Petrie Butler explained about his style of work, Sandra Jaekel dropped by to discuss her pieces, and artist and potter Clive Turner was another visitor.

A Dryfemount spokesperson said: “This day promoted how important art is because it improves the emotional, mental and physical wellbeing of the residents and also stimulates the brain, improving dexterity and reducing anxiety, depression and agitation, and provides a vital sense of purpose within the home.

“A great big thank you to all these artists who very kindly gave up their free time to help make our day very successful indeed.”
