DUMFRIES Academy pupils got a front row seat to Scottish politics during their visit to Holyrood. The group of S4–S6 pupils recently visited the Scottish Parliament where they were welcomed by South of Scotland MSP Craig Hoy and watched First Minister’s Questions. They went on to engage in their own Q and A session with Mr Hoy, who was pleased to answer their questions about Holyrood, parliamentary procedures and life as an MSP. He said: “The Dumfries Academy pupils asked excellent questions and were able to get a first-hand insight into how parliament operates, which they can use in their exams and ongoing assessment. “Getting young people involved in politics is important and school visits can be inspiring and encourage them to engage in the political process. “It is everyone’s Parliament and it is good to give young people an opportunity to understand how it works and how they can get more involved.”
