SEVERAL community groups across Dumfries and Galloway are celebrating a “cash bonanza” after the latest round of Scottish Government funding was announced.

A total of 12 local organisations in the region have been awarded grants from the Strengthening Communities Programme, adding up to a total of £483,000 injected into the local economy.

Stranraer saw multiple grants awarded, totalling £132,690. They went to the Furniture Project, Water Sports Association and Development Trust, and Kirkcolm Community Trust.

The money has been welcomed by South Scotland MSP, Emma Harper, who said: “This latest round of funding through the Scottish Government’s Strengthening Communities Programme is a real cash boost for Wigtownshire.

“The volunteers and groups on the ground and embedded in our communities are best placed to understand what those communities need and how best to deliver it, and the Scottish Government’s funding will accelerate that work across our area."
