A NEW exhibition focussing on the history of girl guiding in Dumfries and Galloway has opened at Dumfries Museum. The exhibition opened last Saturday to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Thinking Day, centring on the history of the movement in the region with a special emphasis on the centenary of this international day of friendship, reflection and fundraising. Museum staff have spent hours pouring over albums of photographs full of happy faces of young women experiencing new things from map reading to camping to semaphore. Loans of classic items from Brownie and Guiding history, such as toadstools, brown owls, badges and uniforms, will be displayed along with trophies, cups and shields. A film will include inter-generational interviews where current guides will interview members of the Trefoil Guild about their memories and experiences of girl-guiding. The exhibition will be on display until September.
