Get set, go for wife carrying

A UNIQUE event is coming to the region this summer. The UK "Wife" Carrying Championships will be held in Kirkcudbright on July 19 as part of the town's country fair. Participating couples race across an obstacle course carrying their partner in a piggyback, fireman’s carry or the famous Estonian lift. It's open to everyone (18+) and the “wife” doesn’t have to be a spouse as teams can be any gender. The winners take home their partner’s weight in beer and a place at the World Championship in Finland, plus a contribution towards their travel costs. Sign ups will open at the start of May, so there's time to find your ideal team mate. However, the organisers says spaces will be 'very limited'. Find out more at www.ukwifecarrying.co.uk
