A £1 million project to upgrade important gas infrastructure near Stranraer is now complete.

Gas network company SGN'S project focused on modernising the Stranraer off-take – the facility where high-pressure gas from the national network is reduced to intermediate pressure before entering the distribution network which feeds businesses and homes.

The investment significantly enhances the site’s monitoring capabilities improving operational safety and system reliability, as well as the accuracy of real-time data monitoring gas flow, pressure and temperature.

Adam Hyslop, electrical and instrumentation engineer at SGN, explained: “These upgrades are part of our long-term investment in infrastructure to ensure the gas network remains safe, secure, resilient and fit for the future.

“With more accurate data, we can respond faster to issues while continuing to safely deliver mains gas to our customers in Dumfries and Galloway.

“Ultimately, it’s about creating a network that’s easier to maintain and built to last. It’s an investment that better helps us serve the people of Stranraer.”
