A STEERING group has been set up to oversee the rebuilding of Gatehouse Bowling Club.

Volunteers stepped up at a public meeting last Friday night.

The organisers said: "We would like to offer a sincere thank you to everyone who attended the meeting. The turnout, enthusiasm and constructive discussion on the night were incredibly encouraging. The ideas, feedback and opinions shared were extremely valuable and will play an important role in shaping the future direction of the club."

The new group will now carry out a full assessment of the current position of the club — looking at the condition of facilities, available resources, governance arrangements and the practical steps required to move the project forward.

Afterwards, the intention is to open up membership to the community and move towards holding an official Annual General Meeting where a formal committee can be elected to lead the club into the future.

The spokesperson added: "There is still a lot of work ahead, but the enthusiasm and support shown so far has been extremely encouraging. "The bowling club has long been an important part of Gatehouse life and it is exciting to begin the journey of bringing it back for future generations."
