MORE 'public engagement' sessions are to be held to gather views on the Whitesands Flood project.

Dumfries and Galloway Council have revealed the events, due to be held on Tuesday September 2 and Wednesday 3 in the High Street.

They describe them as "an opportunity for residents, businesses and organisations to help shape how the riverfront should look, feel and function. These conversations will directly inform the development of inclusive, sustainable and meaningful public spaces."

Feedback will also be accepted through the council website.

Justifying the need for more public consultation, eight years since the scheme was first published, officials said: "The next stage of the project focuses on creating a cohesive, vibrant waterfront experience through landscapes, pathways, lighting , seating and play area, in particular. It is important that we get public feedback on the area of Greensands, Upper Whitesands, and Dock Park. We want to understand how people move through and use the areas, what draws them in, and what will keep them coming back.

"We're looking to futureproof these spaces to ensure they stand the test of time, having the ability to adapt to climate, social trends and demographic change."
