Fund receives record number of bids

A RECORD number of bids were made to NHS Dumfries and Galloway’s Endowment Fund this year, with over £1 million given out.

The various grants have gone towards supporting staff and communities across the region.

Over £700k has been awarded to support health and social care staff mental health and wellbeing and advance education and community engagement projects, while £340k has been awarded to community initiatives that support healthcare services to provide mental health support for individuals in the community, addressing problems of isolation and reducing inequalities in accessing health care.

The NHS Dumfries and Galloway Endowment Fund (DGHBEF) charity exists to provide support to health care staff and in support of community initiatives that have a positive impact on the wellbeing of the local population.

The charity very gratefully receives significant donations and legacies from people in the region, in acknowledgement and thanks for the care provided to them and their loved ones.

More funds were released than usual this year to expand the support available to local people at this challenging time post pandemic.

Nick Mitchell, operations manager for the DGHBEF, said: “We have an established grants programme that supports a wide range of voluntary and community sector organisations as well as our local NHS services. The trustees unanimously supported the significant increase in grants allocated this year – to help respond to the challenges being experienced by our staff and the local community.

Nick Morris, chair of the DGHBEF, added: “We continue to make a difference with support for our local NHS and community services. We can only do this with the kind and generous donations made by the people of Dumfries and Galloway. I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our supporters. It is such a privilege to see the difference our grants make to staff, patients and members of the community.”
