Free bus travel has been a hit
NEW figures showed that children and young people from Dumfries and Galloway have taken nearly 3.5 million free bus journeys in three years. The trips were made after the SNP government introduced free travel for under 22s. And the numbers have been welcomed by South Scotland MSP Emma Harper, who says the scheme continues to help eradicate child poverty, tackle climate change and grow the economy by making it easier for young people to travel for education, employment and leisure activities. She added: “This isn’t only saving young people and their families money – these journeys are transforming lives. Free bus travel is helping young people fulfil their potential by accessing education and employment, and helping them to connect with friends and family. “I want to thank every young person from D&G who has chosen the bus. In doing so, you are supporting our towns and cities, our climate and our bus services."
