Four arrested and charged after town centre raid
FOUR people were arrested in Dumfries on Friday after police seized another haul of illegal tobacco products. Police carried out a search of a premises on High Street where they seized over 30,000 suspected illegal cigarettes, 15 kilogrammes of rolling tobacco and £8000 in cash. Four men, aged 24, 28, 28 and 31, were arrested and charged and will appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court at a later date. Friday's seizure follows the previous recovery of a large number of non-duty paid cigarettes and tobacco in July. Both searches were carried out alongside partners from Dumfries and Galloway Council Trading Standards. Inspector Boyd from Dumfries Community Policing Unit said “These operations highlight our commitment to targeting those involved in serious and organised crime in Dumfries. “If you have information regarding those involved in the supply of illegal cigarettes and tobacco then contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
