A FOOTBRIDGE in Newton Stewart has been closed after it was damaged by a tree.
During Storm Floris on Monday August 4, a mature tree was blown down onto the pedestrian suspension footbridge in the town, causing damage to three of the bridge’s hangers.
Following a formal inspection by the council’s engineering team, the bridge has been closed to the public for safety reasons. Officials are currently seeking cost estimates for the necessary repairs and working out timescales.
Pedestrians are instructed to use alternative crossings in the area.
A council spokesperson said: “Your safety is our priority, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.”
