Focus on the Solway
A GREAT range of subjects from both sides of the Solway are on the programme for this year’s Solway conference. The joint Solway Firth Partnership (SFP) and Solway Coast National Landscape Conference will be held on Friday November 14 in person at the Halston Hotel, Carlisle and online. The event is free of charge and includes a buffet lunch but places, both in person and online, are limited and booking is advised. The programme will span a wide range of subjects and include contributions from both sides of the Solway: topics of the day will include nature beyond borders, archaeological discoveries on the Solway, art in the landscape and habitat restoration, to name just a few. There will also be snapshot updates on a variety of other topical Solway projects and initiatives. The highlight of the day will be a talk by Alastair Moffat, an award-winning writer, historian and former director of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and director of programmes at Scottish Television. Alastair has written more than 30 books on Scotland, Scottish history and the Borders. Naomi Kay, manager of the Solway Coast National Landscape, said: “We are delighted to be running another joint conference with Solway Firth Partnership. Together we are able to bring an amazing variety of subjects and issues to the day and hope that everyone who attends leaves knowing something new about their local coast.”
