THE countdown to this year’s Firefly Festival in Moniaive has begun, with the announcement of headliner Bis. Back for the first time since the pandemic, from Friday September 19 to Sunday September 21 indie bands and acts will descend on the village for a weekend of music and merriment. Headlining this year are Glasgow disco/pink legends Bis, best known for early Riot-Grrrl influenced hit ‘Kandy Pop’ or the later slick Techno-Pop of ‘Eurodisco’. The band are also known worldwide as creators of the original theme to ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ cartoon. Alongside Bis, will be Junkman’s Choir, from Ayrshire, A Murder of Crows from Edinburgh; Woodwife and CCTV from Glasgow, San Fran and the Ciscos and poet, Jim Monaghan hailing from Ayrshire. The High Priestess, and a whole stage of ‘Made in Moniaive’ on the Friday night. Organiser Jane Chalmers is looking forward to the return of the festival and said: “We choose bands and poets we love that are more alternative, on independent labels and artists that are local to our area too!” The Firefly Festival will be held at at Glencairn Memorial Institute.
