WOMEN across Dumfriesshire took a stand last Wednesday for the region’s first ‘Reclaim the night protest’.

Dozens of people participated in the march which set out from The Stove through the town centre, with a similar procession held in Stranraer on the same evening.

The protest was organised by the DG Youth-work team as part of the United Nation’s 16 Days of Action Against Gender Based Violence programme.

A spokesperson for the youth work team said: “On Wednesday night, history was made in Dumfries and Stranraer as our region hosted its first ever Reclaim the Night marches

“Scores of people came together across both events to stand up, speak out, and raise awareness of every woman and girl’s right to feel safe on our streets. The atmosphere was powerful, hopeful, and full of solidarity.

“This was a first for Dumfries and Galloway — and it won’t be the last. Our communities showed that when we come together, we create change.

“Thank you to everyone who marched, volunteered, organised, or supported.”
