Father and son to face fears for cancer support charity
A MOFFAT father and son will tackle their fear of heights to raise cash for a cancer charity.
Billy and Alan Garrett are going to abseil at Port of Leith Distillery in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on May 10, as a little thank you for the charity’s support over the last few years.
Billy – who is part of the Moffat Macmillan fundraising group – was only given months to live after he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a rare blood cancer, in November 2021. But thanks to a lifesaving stem cell transplant, from his son Alan, Billy is on the mend.
And now the pair want to give back to the cancer support charity.
Billy said: “Cancer has affected many family members and friends as well as myself personally, with my son Alan as my stem cell donor. “Macmillan Cancer Support has been a great help to many people over the years.
“We are not very keen on heights but my dear wife Anne has assured me I will be okay! If you are able any small donation is greatly appreciated.”
