A Kettlehom cyclist has raised over £1500 for Mossburn Community Farm last weekend. Hazel, 12, made the 160 kilometre cycle from Dumfries to Glasgow with her dad Tim to raise funds for the animal sanctuary, near Hightae. The pedalling pair set off from Dumfries train station on Friday, July 11 with their route going partly off-road completing 98 kilometres across the Southern Uplands on day one. Hazel arrived in Glasgow safely on Saturday in 30 degree heat. Updating followers via her fundraising page, Hazel said: “Thanks to everyone who sponsored me, I’m tired now but happy that I have raised so much money, it’s so much more that I imagined! The ride was hard but the downhills were fun and I enjoyed my sushi when we got to Glasgow!” In total Hazel raised £1,560.62 almost ten times her original target, with all the money donated going towards the care of the animals at the sanctuary including feed, bedding and vet bills. Expressing their thanks to Hazel for her efforts a spokesperson for Mossburn Community Farm commented: “We cannot emphasise enough how difficult this ride was for anyone and for Hazel to complete it at just 12 years old, Dumfries to Glasgow, in this sweltering heat is unbelievable. “A massive thank you and well done to Hazel and of course her dad Tim who rode alongside her too. “With a very modest target at the beginning of just £1 for each of the 160 kilometres she has cycled over the past two days, Hazel has absolutely smashed that. “Well done Hazel!”
