Fake note discovery

BUSINESSES in Wigtown are on high alert after reports of fake £20 banknotes circulating in the town.

The Galloway Bar raised the alarm on Tuesday after noticing a number of counterfeit notes amongst their earnings from the weekend. The pub took to social media to warn other businesses in the area stating: “We have received some fake £20 English notes over the weekend, please don’t take it offensively if indeed our staff do need to check your notes as all English bank notes from now on will be checked thoroughly

“Other businesses in Wigtown keep an eye out also.”

This is the second time within six months that imitation money has found its way into the circulation in the Machars after Newton Stewart’s Banking Hub warned of similar bogus notes back in February.
