Easter appeal for domestic donations
DONATIONS are being gathered for women in the region who are fleeing abuse.
Friends of Women’s Aid are co-ordinating the Easter appeal and have listed the items they urgently need. They are: bathroom towels, tea towels, blankets/throws, single duvets, and single duvet cover sets. All must be in new condition.
It’s the initiative of Marita Jamieson-Barr, who said: “When a women or family arrive seeking safety in Dumfries, they have fled abuse and they often leave all their belongings behind.
“Women’s Aid would like to be able to provide them with cosy blankets/duvets for comfort.
“These items will be used as they start again. Everyone deserves to feel safe, loved and have homely comforts.
“Locally, we have a shortage of these items. If you are able to please provide any of them.”
Drop-off points have been set up at Barr’s Garden Centres - Moffat,
Whitesyke Garden Centre Of Longtown, Dalbeattie Garden Centre, Heathhall Garden Centre, and Barr’s on the back road
They will run until April 1.
Marita added: “We are hugely thankful to Dumfries Women’s Aid for all the amazing support they provide women/families in Dumfries and Galloway.
“Every donation makes such a huge difference for women/families arriving seeking refuge and starting again.”
“Domestic abuse is a serious issue in D&G, domestic abuse rates continue to increase, there is a waiting list for women and children seeking refuge from domestic abuse.
“Dumfries Women’s Aid support and provide accommodation and your donations greatly help.”
