THIS year’s May Lecture from The Arts Society Dumfries and Galloway (TASDAG) is set to provide a fascinating glimpse into the world of Dutch artist, Johannes Vermeer.
Born in the 1600s in Delft, Vermeer was one of many artists working in the Netherlands at that time, but very little information about him survives.
However, his paintings can still be enjoyed, 350 years after his death, including, perhaps the most famous, Girl with a Pearl Earring, which has inspired many people to an interest in art.
The lecture takes place on May 13 and will be an excellent opportunity to find out a little more about the artist and how his iconic paintings were created.
The talk will be led by Brian Healey, a professional artist and interior designer. He guide the audience through some of Vermeer’s most fascinating works and reveal, at least partially, the mysteries which surround the artist and his enduring legacy.
The monthly TASDAG Lectures take place on the second Tuesday of the month, and the Vermeer event is at 11 am in the Gilchrist Room, Easterbrook Hall.
More information about lectures, events and membership is available from www.tasdag.org.uk.
