Dumfries date for poverty event
A NATIONWIDE tour aiming to address the lack of political action on poverty will call at Dumfries next week.
It is be a spin-off from The Scotland Demands Better march, taking place in Edinburgh next month.
That event will bring together anti-poverty campaigners, trade unions, faith groups, environmental activists, charities, and community organisations.
But there is also a series of local public meetings across Scotland, to help people get inspired.
The Dumfries event will take place at 2-6 Nith Street, on Thursday September 25, from 5.30 pm.
Peter Kelly, chief executive of the Poverty Alliance, said: “Change for the better happens when people stand together and demand it. Scotland desperately needs that change – and we want these public meetings to bring people much-needed hope and optimism for the future.
“We want people in communities across Scotland to raise their voices, to stand up, turn up, and tell our political leaders to start building a society where every household has what they need to thrive and prosper.”
There will also be an online meeting for Dumfries and Galloway the following day, September 26, from 1 pm via Zoom.
