FAMILY, nostalgia and fundraising are at the heart of the Guild of Players’ next production, Tally’s Blood. The play, written by Ann Marie Di Mambro, is set in Scotland and Italy during the period of World War II and its aftermath from 1936 to 1955. The action centres on the Pedreschi family, an Italian immigrant family who run a Glasgow cafe, and their interactions with the Scottish Devlin family. It explores the themes of family, relationships, identity and conflict. Told with heart and humour, it is a tale of poverty, passion and prejudice during tumultuous times is a central theme of the play, making it particularly relevant today. The five show run of this contemporary classic is part of the guild’s continuing efforts to deliver outstanding theatre. With rehearsals in full swing, director Liz McGuinness is excited to welcome audiences when the show takes to the stage next month. She said: “It has been a great opportunity to direct ‘Tally’s Blood’ for the Guild of Players. It has been a great pleasure to work with such a talented, hard-working cast and production team. “This is a truly great heart-warming play set in Scotland and Italy between 1936 and 1955 which deals with themes such as love, war, family and prejudice, which is particularly relevant to today; however, it is also full of humour, Italians and unlike most serious plays, it has a happy ending! “Please support Scotland’s oldest working theatre and keep it working by coming along to watch the play.”
