A WOODLAND area in Dalbeattie could be sold off to people who live nearby. Dumfries and Galloway Council has identified a piece of land at Rounall Wood which is now considered surplus to requirements. And council officers have now put forward this section of the woodland for potential sale. The details are included in a report, which is due to be discussed at the council’s economy and infrastructure committee next week. It states: “The council own land at Rounall Wood, Dalbeattie, adjacent to 20 Gala Avenue, Dalbeattie, extending to 592 square metres. “This ground is made up of a woodland area. The council has been approached by adjacent proprietors in respect of acquiring this land.” However, this piece of land forms part of the Common Good and therefore if agreed by councillors, and thereafter approved by the strategic asset board, the matter would go out to a public consultation. Rounall Wood is described on the council’s website as “a quiet haven on the outskirts of Dalbeattie with a network of paths giving opportunities for a quiet stroll, a picnic or a place for children to explore”. The entire wooded area includes a 1.5 mile circular walk around the wood that passes through a variety of trees. However, the land being considered for sale by councillors is just a smaller section of woodland.

Meanwhile, at next Tuesday’s committee, councillors will also consider whether or not a piece of land at Greenlane, Ashfield Drive in Dumfries, should be put up for sale. The council report reads: “This 709 sq m piece of ground is made up of a grassed area, tarmac area and former garage sites. “The council has been approached by adjacent proprietors in respect of acquiring this land. This land does not form part of the Common Good.”
