Cyclists are ready, steady, go
LOOK out for a team of charity cyclists on the roads between Whithorn and Dumfries tomorrow. The Ready to Brake Cycle event is taking place that day and ten cyclists will be doing their best to raise as much money as possible for Tearfund Scotland and CRY/David Hill Memorial Fund. They have been undertaking final training runs this week, ahead of the 71 mile push. It was originally the idea of the late John Glover and his wife Marion, 70, will be taking his place. She said: “I am proud to be part of the St George’s team. It is wonderful to see John’s initial idea for this event coming to fruition, and I am grateful to everyone who is cycling or supporting us. “This is not an easy task, but we are determined to do our best for Tearfund and CRY (David Hill Memorial Fund) and in memory of John and David.” Pedalling with her will be Rev Donald Campbell, Andy McDougall, Erin Campbell, David Mowat, Dave McAdam, Tony Read and Lorna Read. Also participating are Rodger and Lesley Hill, in memory of his son David. The couple said: “We are delighted to be involved and we are immensely grateful to St George’s Church for supporting David’s fund in this way. The money raised will go towards cardiac screening for young people (14-35) in Dumfries and Galloway. “71 miles in a single day for a group of less experienced cyclists will be a challenge, but we are confident that we can achieve this together.” The route will start from the Isle of Whithorn Church and will take cyclists via Newton Stewart, New Galloway and Castle Douglas and on to St George’s in Dumfries where family and friends will be waiting at the finish line.
