A CALL has been made for the return of a road patrol crossing in Castle Douglas popular with young children and parents.

MSP Finlay Carson wants it restored until safety measures have been upgraded at the location in Queen Street, which was axed last year.

Dumfries and Galloway Council have confirmed that detailed assessment work there is finally complete.

Mr Carson said: “The independent report highlights long-standing issues with driver compliance, visibility at the car park exit, worn surfacing as well as accessibility concerns for children and mobility-impaired users.

“I’m pleased to share that the council will now deliver improvements during the Easter and summer school holidays, including moving the stop line to improve safety.

“The improvement work will also involve removing redundant signal poles, adding new signal heads and repeaters for better visibility, resurfacing and lowering kerbs to improve accessibility.”

He has pledged to push for the works to be completed on time, while asking for the temporary return of the crossing patrol too.
