Crash shuts A75

THE A75 continues to be shut after a crash near Creetown early this morning.

The accident happened at about 2.15 am and involved two vehicles. The busy road has been shut in both directions as a result.

At present, there are no details about any injuries.

However, diversions have been put in place, but are forcing motorists on a 90 mile detour via Ayr, which is taking over two hours.

The Dual the A75 campaign group have criticised the chosen route and said: "Obviously our first thoughts are with anyone hurt or injured in the incident, and their families.

"This again acutely highlights the need for serious upgrade and implements to the entire A75.

"The eastbound suggested detour for what is normally a 40 min, 30 mile journey is a two hour 15 minute, 91 mile route, sending HGVs along the unfortunately already far too perilous at the best of times, Newton Stewart,
