Crafters give comfort to patients
A GROUP of crafters paid a special visit to DGRI to deliver hand made comforts for patients to use all year round. Members of the Shambellie Quilters dropped off a selection of handmade items, including syringe driver bags, heart-shaped cushions for patients with breast cancer, abdominal cushions for those post-abdominal surgery, baby quilts, baby bags, and helping hand squares for new mums and premature babies who are in incubators. Ann Hill, of Shambellie Quilters, said: “It’s a pleasure to hand over the donation that we hope will be of some comfort to patients. It’s so good to meet with some of the lovely staff who have come to accept the items taking them back to the wards for the patients they look after. “We are more than happy to make further donations should we hear from staff that patients have liked them. It adds something extra special when doing something we enjoy for such a good cause.” In addition to the donation for patients, the group also crafted unique transportation bag for DG Blood Bike. The idea for the bag was thought up by one of the quilters, John Bell, after speaking to a member of the charity about what he could make for them. John has committed to making more of the bags. Nurse Tanya Harkness, from the palliative care ward at DGRI, said: “Myself and colleagues are so grateful, and on behalf of staff on the wards where we work, for their time and effort spent on this thoughtful donation. We certainly have plenty with so many talented and skilled people in the group making so many items.”
