Crackdown pledge on bad bus behaviour

AN action plan is being rolled out to tackle anti social behaviour on buses in Lochside and Lincluden.

After receiving multiple reports about bad behaviour on different routes locally, North West Dumfries Councillor Paula Stevenson decided to try and fix the problem.

And she held a ‘positive’ meeting with the community police, Stagecoach and the council’s community safety team last week.

She now hopes there will be improvements for passengers and said: “After a successful meeting between community police, Stagecoach and the community safety team, a plan of action has been put in place to stop this unacceptable behaviour on our vital public transport.

“No one should feel unsafe or abused on a bus, or whilst waiting for one, and I’m pleased that both the police and the community safety team will work together to disperse the unwanted behaviour at Burns’ Statue and on the Lochside and Lincluden buses.

“Stagecoach have also committed to ensuring CCTV is working on the buses, especially in the evening.”

Cllr Stevenson added: “I hope this gives the public and the drivers assurance that there is a commitment and desire to end this disgraceful behaviour.”
