Council's u-turn on bin collections

EXTRA bin collections will take place this weekend for households affected by the storm.

Regular pick ups were cancelled last Friday due to the weather and initially Dumfries and Galloway Council said there would be no extra collections.

However, following public criticism, that position was changed yesterday.

A spokesman said: “After positive discussions with our workforce, our waste collection staff will work on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 February to support our communities – and collect the waste that was not uplifted on Friday 24 January.

“If your bin was due to be picked up on Friday, please put your bin out for collection before 6.30 am on Saturday. We will empty these bins by end of the working day on Sunday.

“This will not affect your other bin collection schedules. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Two extra bags can also be left out alongside the bin and recycling waste can be placed out too. Excess food waste should go in the black bin.
