Council seeks new convenor

A NEW convenor and deputy leader is set to be appointed at Dumfries and Galloway Council.
There’s a vacancy after Mid Galloway and Wigtown West Councillor Katie Hagmann was elected as an MSP earlier this month.
She now represents Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley for the SNP.
But it meant she had to give up her two council positions, although she will continue as an elected member.
And now, a special full council meeting is planned for June 1 to elect her replacement.
The convener is responsible for preserving order at council meetings, deciding matters of procedure and conduct of business, and ruling on the inclusion of urgent items not on the agenda.
The candidates vying to succeed her will be revealed in due course.
