Council procurement delivers for local businesses
DUMFRIES and Galloway Council has published a procurement performance update, confirming strong contract compliance and a continued focus on supporting local suppliers. In Quarter 2 of the 2025/26 financial year, the council spent over £77 million on goods, services and works. Of that, £18.5 million – nearly a quarter – went directly to businesses based in this region. Councillor John Campbell said: “We’re committed to making it easier for local firms to do business with the council. We know the challenges that small and rural businesses face, and we’re working hard to open up more opportunities for them to bid and succeed.” The report also shows that 97.2% of spend over £20,000 was on-contract – exceeding the council’s 95% target – and over 80 community benefit initiatives were delivered through procurement, bringing added value to local communities. Businesses can view upcoming contract opportunities on the council website.
