Concerns raised over new play equipment
PLAY equipment at Moffat’s Station Park has been removed just months after it was installed due to ‘safety reasons’.
The park’s new basket swing was recently removed by the council’s community assets team after it was reported that its support structure was moving while the swing was in use.
Meanwhile, some residents have been critical of the new play equipment as a whole, stating that it ‘not fit for purpose’.
One commented: “£90,000 was spent on that play park for new equipment and in my opinion it’s not suitable. My young grandson, who’s five, can’t access the slide, he can’t go up the ladder, it’s not a proper ladder. It’s not safe for the young people using that park. They have put in play equipment for an older age group, who aren’t the ones who’ll be using the park.”
Concerns about the suitability of the equipment were echoed by community councillor Edward Ling, who added: “I have to agree with concerns being raised, my own three-year-old granddaughter could use the equipment that was there before, but now we don’t want to risk it with her.
“The last time my wife and I were at the park and having this conversation other people began to join in and were saying exactly the same thing.”
