Commons committee chance for Stephen
VIEWS of the region’s hospitality sector were taken to Westminster this week. Dumfriesshire restaurateur Stephen Montgomery, of the Scottish Hospitality Group, yesterday presented evidence to a House of Commons committee on the challenges facing the industry, above. Afterwards, he said: “I strongly believe that it’s crucial for the hospitality industry to be recognised as a distinct sector, especially considering the complexities and challenges brought about by the current tax regulations. “Hospitality is all about social interaction, the atmosphere, the creation of sustainable, professional well paying jobs, and maintaining affordability for consumers to relish that vibrant ambiance created by our dedicated teams in our venues right across the United Kingdom. It is time for an independent Government review, to look and take a deep dive into the sector, and to work create a workable, and more affordable sector which is beneficial to all. After all, it is only “fairness” we are looking for.”
