A SPECIAL tree to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day was planted in Newton Stewart last Sunday. The cherry tree, called ‘Pandora’, was supposed to be planted earlier in the year to coincide with the D-Day celebrations but the event was delayed. It has now taken root in Monument Gardens, and was funded by members of the Women of Minnigaff and Newton Stewart. The official planting ceremony on Sunday was attended by the ladies of the group and Stephon Bishop, chair of the Newton Stewart branch of the Royal British Legion.
