Club invites comments on pavilion plans
A SPORTS club in Kirkcudbright is inviting local residents to have their say on a new health and wellbeing facility that will benefit the whole community.
St Cuthbert Wanderers FC are in the early stages of designing a new energy efficient pavilion at St Mary’s Park in Kirkcudbright, which will be accessible to all.
It will include a community space, a wellness suite, and a focus on staging activities to improve community health and wellbeing, such as yoga, meditation, physiotherapy, and podiatry.
Now recently formed as a charity, Saints Community Football SCIO has organised a public drop-in session this weekend.
The plans will be displayed in the old Gowans shop window at 26 St Cuthbert Street all this week and members of the public are invited inside for a drop-in on Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm.
Club chairman Ian McIntyre said: “New activities beyond football will benefit the local community in improved wellbeing in terms of physical and mental health."
He added: “There is a growing urgency to develop the club’s facilities as football participation in the town has increased hugely in age groups, from our three-year-old Mini-Kickers up to walking footballers well into their 70s.
“Our changing facilities are now too small and dated, plus some of the current buildings are in very poor condition. So, this is the perfect time for us to re-invent the role the club can play in its local community.”
Craig Fabian, project manager, said: “It’s important to say that the plan is for new activities to build on and add to what is already happening in Kirkcudbright by filling gaps and enhancing choice – as opposed to competing with what’s already happening in the town.
“We have funding to work with architects Reiach & Hall early in 2026 to carry out detailed conversations with the local community and develop design concepts following on from the session.
“Plans will remain on public display in the Tourist Information Centre in Harbour Square.”
