STREETS around Dumfries and Galloway will soon be sparkling after the council invested in new cleaning equipment. The local authority has invested in two gully cleaning units and four street sweepers, which they say will deliver a significant upgrade in capability across the region. It comes after roads teams, above, identified the equipment as one of the top priorities needed to improve day-to-day operations and support the ongoing maintenance of the region’s 7000 km road network. And it means they’ll be able to clear gullies more frequently and reduce surface-water and flooding issues; and improve road sweeping coverage in towns, villages and high-use routes. Staff training on the new vehicles is underway and they will start to be used from March 23.
