A DOCUMENTARY which follows the inauguration of the first chief of a clan in more than 300 years is coming to the Robert Burns Centre next week.

‘Meet The Buchanans’ is an offbeat documentary observing the run up to the inauguration of millionaire Scottish landowner Mike Buchanan as the newly confirmed Clan Buchanan Highland Chief - the first in 300 years.

Historical fact and historical fantasy collide as hundreds of tartan-mad enthusiasts from around the globe flock to deepest Perthshire to join the Chief, his wife Lady Paula and family for a three-day ceremonial bonanza on their magnificent Highland Estate. But with historical records in short supply, ceremony and ritual are being freely invented.

Meet the Buchanans is co-directed and produced by BAFTA award-winning Barbara Orton, with the film originally commissioned by BBC Scotland to follow the inauguration of the clan’s new chief after decades of genealogical research to identify the next heir.

The screening will be followed by a Q and A with producer and co-director Barbara Orton.

Meet The Buchanans will show at the the Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre from 7.30 pm onwards, for more information visit the centre’s website.
