KIRKPATRICK Juxta Church could be converted into a three bedroom house, if plans are approved.

The category B-listed church was put up for sale by the Church of Scotland last year and its new owners have now lodged plans with Dumfries and Galloway Council to convert it into a house.

According to the supporting statements the applicants want to be respectful of the 225-year-old building’s architectural features stating: “Our clients’ ambition is to convert the building into a private dwelling house for themselves.

“The overall aim is to achieve a design that is respectful of the unique history and detailing of the architecture, whilst dividing the large volume into domestic-scale rooms appropriate for modern-day living. As such, the proposal is not a single holistic solution but rather a series of considered interventions that respond directly to their positions within the building.”

The building itself dates back to the late 1790’s when it was constructed on the site of earlier medieval and 17th century sanctuaries, and the applicants are keen to take it into its next phase of life adding: “Kirkpatrick Juxta Parish Church is a building that has undergone many phases of occupation and architectural alterations, dating back to the 18th century.

“Following the recent sale by the Church of Scotland, the building requires new guardianship to secure its future as a valuable heritage asset.”
