A SPECIAL display to mark the 60th anniversary of Dumfries’ Christian Aid group is now open at Georgetown Library. Members of Dumfries Churches have been working together to raise money for Christian Aid’s development projects and emergency relief for people in great need for over 60 years. To celebrate the milestone, the display focuses on the group’s activities featuring photos and newspaper cuttings of early events, which included an afternoon tea as well as sponsored events like the junior jogs, toddlers trots and walks in Mabie Forest. Alison Wright, the convener of the Christian Aid committee, said: “For over 60 years, the people of Dumfries have been supporting Christian Aid’s work, and over the years we have seen how the money we raise transforms lives. “This year is a special year, marking 80 years since Christian Aid was founded in the aftermath of the Second World War. We have enjoyed finding details of past events, such as the Bazaar in Loreburn Hall, for our display. “We are supported locally by almost 20 churches representing the Church of Scotland and Scottish Episcopal Church, with Dumfries Baptist and the Catholic Churches helping with Lent lunches. “We are very grateful for the local support and are looking forward to sharing this with a wider public.” The display will be in the activities room at Georgetown Library until Wednesday December 3.
