Charged with attempted murder
A DUMFRIES man has been charged with attempted murder and for carrying a blade following an incident at Lochside Road last Friday. Darren Ellis appeared in private at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday, where he made no plea to three offences. The 24-year-old was charged with assault to severe injury, danger of life and attempted murder after a man was taken to hospital for treatment to “non-life threatening injuries”. Ellis, of Dumfries, also made no plea to charges of having a knife in his possession and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner. He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody in the meantime. He will appear at court within eight days. It comes after cops raced to the scene at Lochside Road after reports of a serious assault on Friday night. A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the serious assault of a man on Lochside Road, Dumfries, which happened around 9.50 pm on Friday, 13 February, 2026. “A man was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. “Enquiries are ongoing.”
