Catwalk coup for male model Jack

A MALE model from Dumfries took to the runway to walk for one of the world’s most famous fashion houses last weekend.

Prada debuted their spring/summer 2019 menswear collection at an exclusive event in Milan on Sunday evening.

And Jack McQueen, 21, was one of the select few chosen to showcase the collection.

Jack, who grew up in Dumfries but is now based in Glasgow, first got into modelling when he was approached in a city bar.

He said: “I was sceptical that the agent was who he said he was, but he gave me his card, at which point I looked them up and knew it was legitimate.”

The former Wallace Hall Academy pupil is now signed with three modelling agencies – Model Team Scotland, New Madison Paris and Wilhelmina London – but says he has never done anything as big as the Prada show before.

He said: “The selection process involved being shortlisted by a casting director, then I was flown out to Milan to meet Prada stylist Olivier Rizzo.

“Four hours after I met Olivier my agent called to say that Prada confirmed me for the show.

“After I found out I called my parents and sister straight away and told them the good news.

“I didn’t really believe it at first, it took a while to sink in.”

Jack explained that fittings for clothes and styling for hair and make-up all happened on the day of the show, and he said: “There is a lot of waiting around involved in modelling and shows are no different.

“It was much more relaxed than I thought it would be and the show itself was very well organised, as you might expect.”

Aside from modelling, Jack is studying chemistry with drug discovery at the University of Strathclyde.

He said: “Juggling modelling and studying has been manageable for me, but you do have a lot less free time.”

And he hopes the Prada show will be the first of many international catwalk appearances over the next few months.

He said: “I’m currently in Paris casting for shows that are happening this week so I’ll find out very soon if I have any big shows coming up.”
