Care home suffers first covid death

A RESIDENT at a Dalbeattie care home has died from Covid related causes.

Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership today confirmed the death at the Alma McFadyen Care Centre in the past week.

Currently, a total of 15 residents and ten staff there have tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, at Fleet Valley Care Home in Gatehouse of Fleet, a total of 18 residents and 32 staff have tested positive.

A partnership spokesman said: “The operators of both these care homes in Stewartry have been faced with incredibly difficult situations, but full credit is due to the operators and their incredibly dedicated staff for the responses that have been mounted.

“Covid-19 is very highly infectious, which means that containing its spread is not easy – even when it is being met with all the correct protocols.

“The coronavirus can result in mild symptoms, and sometimes none at all, and this can mask its spread to more vulnerable individuals where it can pose a high degree of risk.
