SOUTH Scotland MSP Emma Harper is calling on SWestrans to host an online information session regarding the rollout of the new bus operations and timetable schedules across Dumfries and Galloway. She wants it for councillors to help dispel myths and mis-information so that they can then help and respond to questions from constituents. Ms Harper has commended the bus operators who stepped up at short notice to ensure continuity of service, and praised the SWestrans team and Dumfries and Galloway Council for their hard work over the summer to implement the new arrangements and to achieve a start date for the new contract. She said: “The transition to creating new contracts has not been without its challenges, and there are definitely still issues that have been flagged up which need to be resolved. But the achievement of continuing the transport services across our large rural region whilst under much pressure is commendable.” But she added: “Clear communication is key. I have had so many inquiries to my office about many aspects of the new service, including ticketing, pricing, schedule, routes and more. Therefore, I am seeking a session for elected members similar to the information sessions that are provided and helpful from other public bodies. This would allow MSPs, MPs and councillors to better support constituents who contact us, and there have been many, and help shape the next phase of public transport in our region.”
