Bringing the oceans to Dumfriesshire
A DYNAMIC three-year programme bringing ocean education inland and protecting Scotland’s seas is coming to Dumfries and Galloway.
The Marine Conservation Society has launched the Scottish Seas Roadshow to engage 8000 people through 180 co-designed workshops across coastal and inland communities
Prioritising areas where ocean literacy and outdoor learning are under-resourced, the project will be offering school and community groups free marine education sessions, opportunities to visit beaches, take part in beach cleans, rock pooling, seashore safaris and more.
By encouraging access to blue and green spaces, the Marine Conservation Society hope the this improve individual health and wellbeing by embedding ocean education and environmental stewardship within communities.
Spokeswoman Kirsty Crawford said: “We’re thrilled to bring the Scottish Seas Roadshow to communities and schools across Scotland. At a time when our seas are under threat from pollution, overfishing, and climate change, this project will empower thousands of people with the knowledge, skills and inspiration to take action for our ocean, wherever they live.
“We know from our research that while most people care deeply about protecting the marine environment, many don’t realise how their everyday lives impact ocean health. This roadshow is about closing that gap and making ocean conservation accessible to everyone.”
