Brakes put on 20’s plenty plan
PLANS to bring a 20 mile per hour limit to Moffat have come to an abrupt halt, as funds for the scheme have been spent. Officials from the roads department met with Moffat and District Community Council (MDCC) and part of their discussion was the timeline for the town’s speed limit. Updating residents at Tuesday night’s meeting, MDCC secretary Mick Barker revealed: “We had a meeting with the roads department about the 20 mph zone coming to Moffat. And interestingly as a council department, we had to tell them that there is a pump track and they needed to take that into consideration in setting the boundaries for the 20 mph speed limit. “The roads department now have to go to the police for verification. “It is worth adding that we were also told that all the money for 20 mile per hour limits has been spent, so the council are going to have to go off begging to get money for the signs.” This was confirmed by Annandale North Councillor Carolyne Wilson who stated that the new speed limit ‘was supposed to be in place by the end of the financial year’. Similar limits are already in place in Lockerbie, Annan, Dumfries and Stranraer after a push from the Scottish Government. But Moffat residents are still waiting to give their input on the scheme, with no indication on when the consultation will begin.
