A CASTLE Douglas brewery has been forced to halt production following a fire in its brewhouse. The blaze at Sulwath Brewery on Tuesday night destroyed some of the brewery's essential equipment including its Hot Liquor Tank, power to the entire brewhouse was also cut off, forcing the team to halt production during its busy season. Now the family-owned business has launched a Go Fund Me to help them rebuild, replace the damaged kit, and get the brewery back up and brewing. Appealing to their followers on social media this week spokesperson for Sulwath said: "Thanks to quick action from the fire service and local electricians, power is now restored and our cold store and fermenters have been saved. But our brewing system is out of action — and we’re now fighting to rebuild at the worst possible time: the height of our busiest season of our 30th anniversary. "We’re gutted, but we’re not giving up. Sulwath has been family-owned for nearly 30 years, spanning three generations, and we’ve weathered all kinds of storms — including COVID. But this is one we can’t face alone. "Please consider donating or sharing. "Every penny, every post, every word of support means the world. "And when we’re back brewing, we’ll be throwing a huge thank-you party — and everyone who’s helped will be invited to raise a pint with us."
