Birthday boys plan Kirkcudbright party

TWO Scottish writers born on the same day have found a unique way of celebrating their joint 70th birthday.

Ian Spring is the author of several books of non-fiction, fiction and detective fiction. Spike Munro is a popular poet from Edinburgh.

Both were born on March 9 1955 and, on discovering their birthday fell on the last day of the annual Kirkcudbright Book Week, with which they have had a close involvement, they agreed to appear to the public on the very same day – this weekend.

The event is quixotically titled ‘SE7ENty, and will feature ‘poetry, prose and birthday cake’.

Ian said: “I look forward to my annual visit to Kirkcudbright and the fantastic ambience of the Book Week. This year, it seems, will be particularly memorable!”

The joint celebration will take place in the Old Station Cookery School in Kirkcudbright from 11 am on Sunday. Tickets are available from: www.ticketsource.co.uk/kirkcudbright-book-week
