Backing local and powering business growth
ELECTRICITY network operator SP Energy Networks is backing local and powering business growth across Dumfries and Galloway. It is investing tens of millions of pounds to provide towns and villages across the region with a reliable and resilient electricity supply. And they are working with a range of local companies, from aggregates to power tools and fuel to plant hire. One such firm is Aureos – a specialist engineering services provider in Dumfries, which has recently signed a four-year contract extension. The company plays a vital role in improving and maintaining the region’s electricity infrastructure – refurbishing overhead lines and poles, replacing ageing transformers, and responding immediately to minimise disruption if the lights go out. They also go door-to-door locally to encourage eligible people to sign up for the Priority Services Register, as well as keeping residents informed about upgrade works. Their partnership with SP Energy Networks has enabled the Aureos to grow to over 50 and they are about to open a new yard in Dumfries. Operations manager Stephen Cassidy said: “We’re incredibly proud to be growing our business in the region as a long-standing supply chain partner to SP Energy Networks and ScottishPower. “Working with them has allowed us to grow our team locally, investing in the skills and resources we need to future-proof the region’s energy infrastructure. That means more trainees, more operational staff and more support staff – all of which means more opportunities on the doorstep for the people who live here.” Stuart McConnachie, Dumfries district general manager at SP Energy Networks, also welcomed the local links and said: “By choosing local people and businesses, we’re not just operating in Dumfries and Galloway – we’re investing in it and making a long and lasting difference that will benefit people for generations to come. “That’s a significant legacy, and one we’re proud to be part of every single day.” Above: Stuart McConnachie and Stephen Cassidy
